Jockey Richie Deegan completed a Gowran double today, steering Marelly (8/1) to win the Glanbia Novice Handicap Hurdle, for trainer Eoin McCarthy and the Give Her Welly Marelly Syndicate.

Runner-up on his two previous starts, including when gambled at the Listowel festival in September, the son of Sageburg today finished tired but held runner-up A Mere Bagatelle by 2.25 lengths.

Deegan, earlier successful on the Liz Doyle trained Yabo said “he deserved that as he was unlucky in Listowel and then had a good run in Clonmel behind (today's unplaced rival) Hey Johnny

“We went a nice gallop for the ground and still ended up there a bit soon. He had a little bit left.

“He came from Sam Curling’s and will jump a fence too.”
