Defiantly finishes strongly to land the odds Defiantly ran a cracker on debut when staying on strongly after losing significant ground at the start and confirmed that promise when landing the odds in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden at Killarney. The Joseph O’Brien-trained gelding was sent off the 4/6 favourite but appeared in trouble as Edge Of Seventeen looked set to make all entering the final furlong. However, the odds-on favourite really got motoring under Dylan Browne McMomnagle inside the final 150 yards to such effect that he ultimately scored by a length and three-quarters. Sigliosa was a further length and a quarter back in third. Browne McMonagle said, “He is a very raw horse and the first day he ran, it took him a long time to get into it. He was still much the same today and they got a couple of lengths on me at the bottom of the straight but it took a furlong or two for the penny to drop. "I hit the furlong pole well though and he won well at the line. He is an improving horse and could be a nice stayer in time. “He will keep improving, got through the ground well and is very versatile in that regard." O’Brien and Browne McMonagle were completing a double having been on the mark earlier with Evening Blossom. Quotes by Tom Weekes
