Delzangles hoping Makfi back to best Mikel Delzangles is confident Makfi is back in top form ahead of a potential clash with the likes of Goldikova and Paco Boy in Sunday's Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville. The three-year-old sprang a huge surprise when landing the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in May, beating off the likes of Dick Turpin and Canford Cliffs to take Classic glory on the Rowley Mile. He was well beaten in Royal Ascot's St James's Palace Stakes next time out but his trainer hopes a two-month break from racing will have done him the power of good. "He seems to be back in good form. He did his last piece of work this morning and everything went fine," Delzangles told At The Races. "I hope he is as well as he was before the Guineas and it looks like he is, despite having not run for two months. "He had two weeks off after Ascot as he came back quite sick from there, but he is back in good form and has done the work that is needed. "He should be fit for the race and he doesn't mind the ground. If it rains it will be no problem for him. "It will be very hard to beat Goldikova, who is already a legend of racing, but we will see what we can do and it will be interesting to run a three-year-old against great older horses."
