Hogan was hit with the ban after The Pine Martin, which he trains and rode, finished fourth in the Killinan Handicap Hurdle. He was deemed to have used the whip with excessive frequency, while failing to give his mount time to respond. The Pine Martin was the subject of a significant gamble in the race, backed from 14/1 in the morning and returned a 5/1 shot.
