Brother Derek hardened as favourite for the Kentucky Derby when landing the Grade One Santa Anita Derby on Saturday night.

Cashmans have cut Dan Hendricks' charge into 11-4 from 4s for the May 6 contest after he saw off four rivals to score by three and a quarter lengths.

'It was super,' Hendricks told www.thoroughbredtimes.com.

'He just relaxed real well and that's all he needed to do to get the mile-and-an-eighth ? I don't think distance is any question now.

'We just have to keep doing what he's been doing and crank him up for the first Saturday in May.'
