Irish export Designs On Rome claimed Group One glory in Hong Kong with a narrow victory in the Audemars Piguet QEII Cup.

The four-year-old made five appearances for County Waterford-based Pat Flynn as a juvenile in 2012, winning a Naas maiden before going on to chase home champion juvenile Dawn Approach in the Vincent O'Brien Stakes at the Curragh.

An offer from the Far East was too much for Flynn to resist and the son of Holy Roman Emperor has proved a wise investment for his new connections.

Having already won well over a £1million in prize-money with victories in the Hong Kong Classic Cup and the Hong Kong Derby this year, John Moore's runner wore down last year's winner Military Attack to clinch another brilliant victory.

Jockey Tommy Berry guided Military Attack to his success in the race 12 months ago, but sided with Designs On Rome this time around and it proved the right decision.

"We haven't got to the bottom of this horse yet. I think he can get even better," Berry said.
