Guitar Pete will try to confirm his place in the JCB Triumph Hurdle when he runs at Leopardstown in February.

The Dessie Hughes-trained gelding is Cheltenham-bound after he capitalised on an injury to the odds-on Analifet to take the Grade Two Knight Frank Juvenile Hurdle over Christmas.

At this stage he has a choice of engagements, in either the Triumph or the Fred Winter Juvenile Novices' Hurdle, at the Festival.

Hughes will firstly run Guitar Pete in the Spring Juvenile Hurdle at the Dublin track on February 9 - a race his stablemate Our Conor won last winter before going on to land the Triumph.

"He's a tough little horse. He didn't have too hard a race," said the County Kildare handler.

"He'll run in the Triumph or the Fred Winter at Cheltenham. He might possibly be good enough for the Triumph.

"We'll know after he's run at Leopardstown. He'll run in the race Our Conor won last year."
