Dettori Has Approach In His Sights Frankie Dettori expects Rio De La Plata to be snapping at the heels of New Approach next time they meet. The Godolphin two-year-old claimed the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere in impressive style at Longchamp last weekend, barely coming off the bridle in strolling to a two-and-a-half-length win after being ridden handily.Rio De La Plata was regaining the winning thread that day after coming off a narrow second-best to New Approach in the National Stakes at the Curragh. The Rahy colt was beaten a length and three-quarters by Jim Bolger's juvenile when finishing with a late rattle from off the pace, and Dettori is convinced Rio De La Plata will be closer still if they clash again.'With a little bit more luck, I think I can bridge that gap,' he said.'He (New Approach) is a good horse in his own right, but I can get closer next time.'Rio De La Plata's a fantastic horse, has a tremendous cruising speed and a good kick. He's a good scopey-looking horse and we think he's going to train on next year, so we are all very excited,' he told Racing UK.Rio De La Plata is as low as 5-1 with William Hill for the 2000 Guineas, with New Approach their 3-1 market leader. The pair are available at 10-1 and 6-1 respectively for the Derby with the same firm.(C) PA Sport
