Devonshire primed for Royal Ascot Devonshire is set to spearhead Willie McCreery's small but select team at Royal Ascot next week. The Godolphin-owned filly booked her place in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes when winning the Lanwades Stud Stakes at the Curragh last month. McCreery is hoping the forecast thunderstorms materialise to turn the ground in her favour. "She did her last bit of work this morning (Tuesday) and seems in great form," said the Kildare trainer. "There are forecasting thunderstorms over in Ascot and if they get them, I think she'd have a chance." McCreery is looking forward to running Dolce Strega in the Sandringham Handicap after she landed the Group Three Athasi Stakes at the Curragh. "She's doing great and I've entered her for the Sandringham," he said. "She has a nice handicap mark and I think if she ran in Group races she'd be penalised and carrying more weight, so I thought there's no point. "She's rated 100 and it's a lovely opportunity for that race. She has no penalty in Ascot so we'll see how we get on."
