Diamond back in business at Kilbeggan Rocky’s Diamond bounced back to winning ways in the Joe Cooney Memorial Hurdle at Kilbeggan this evening. The Declan Queally-trained gelding had been a Grade 2 winner in January 2025 but had struggled in recent runs, including pulling up in the Galway Plate ten days ago. Dropping in grade today, back over timber, he went to post a 10/11 shot in the three-mile-one contest. Michael Kenneally made all on his mount and he found plenty when tackled by Rememberwhat going to the last, holding that rival at bay and securing a length-and-a-quarter success. “He jumped the first couple big. I was on to Dec during the week and he said he had schooled him over hurdles and he was electric. As the race went on he was a lot better,” said Kenneally. “The run in the Plate was very below par, we knew that ourselves. We came here today expecting that he would do what he did. “I wasn’t hard on him, it was hands and heels away to the line. He was good. “He’s still able to jump a fence. It was an accumulation of things (in Galway). We went down to the second and it was probably my fault. He set it right today and that’s the main thing.”
