Dice could go on break

Paul Flynn may put Moon Dice away until the spring following his unlucky effort in the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle.

The County Longford trainer is keen to return to Cheltenham for the Festival in March after his Galway Hurdle winner got stopped in his run before finishing strongly to take fourth place behind Brampour on Sunday.

Flynn felt the ground did not suit Moon Dice and believes he will be better in the latter stages of the campaign.

However, if conditions were right, Flynn might be tempted to run the six-year-old at Leopardstown's Christmas meeting.

"I thought he was unlucky. Everybody said he wouldn't have beaten the winner, but he got stopped in his run. He lost his momentum and it cost him more than the three lengths he was beaten," said Flynn.

"I think ideally he wants better ground, it was a little bit sticky for him on Sunday. I think the ground in March will suit him a lot better and he'll go back to Cheltenham for something.

"It would probably look a bit silly going for the Champion, I don't know. I don't really care about his hurdle mark because he's going to go chasing next season whatever happens.

"You'd imagine the County or even the Coral Cup might suit him. I think a fast-run two miles suits him, but he may be a little outpaced then come home well. You always run the risk of not getting a good run.

"I'm looking at Leopardstown at Christmas, but the ground might not suit him so he might not run again until Cheltenham in March then Aintree and Punchestown and have break after that.

"If I thought the ground at Leopardstown might not be too bad at Christmas, there could be a good opportunity for him. The track dries out well.

"I'm glad I'm not going chasing with him his year - there are some good ones around - but he will be a better chaser and I'll look forward to that."
