Dick Turpin could return to France

Dick Turpin could return to France in search of further Group One glory following his stunning victory in the Prix Jean Prat.

The Prix du Moulin and the Prix de la Foret in the autumn are now being considered for the Richard Hannon-trained colt after his romp at Chantilly on Sunday.

That more than made up for finishing second in the St James's Palace Stakes, as well as the French and English 2000 Guineas on his previous three starts.

The Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood is a possible option, but the son of Arakan has already had a busy campaign and connections would not risk him on firm ground.

"We have always felt that Dick Turpin was a great horse and he proved it to everyone in France," the trainer told his official website.

"It was some performance, but often you get good horses who are always unlucky and never manage to win a big one, so I am so pleased that this fellow has got his just rewards.

"The pressure is off now that he has won his Group One, but though he has had a busy season with five runs already, it seems that Dick Turpin might be still improving as he has beaten Xtension farther than he had done when second at Newmarket.

"We were taking a chance running him so soon after Ascot, but he was so well at home that we thought 'why not' and as Sheikh Mohammed always says, 'the biggest risk is not taking any'.

"We would not run him on firm ground so, while he is entered in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood, we will monitor the weather before making a decision and he could well go back to France later on for the Prix du Moulin and Prix de la Foret."

(reopens) It is possible that Xtension, who finished third at Chantilly, could step up in trip at some point.

"He's fine, he'd eaten up last night and he's on his way back," said trainer Clive Cox.

"We were very pleased with his run, no excuses. We'll get him home first before we plan where we go next.

"We'd like a couple of days to see how he travels back from France.

"Stepping him up in trip is something we have always had in the back of our minds because he is so laid back.

"It's possible he may take a step up but we might just be excusing the fact that we were just beaten by better horses over a mile."
