Talented bumper performer Sassy Diva could kick off her career over hurdles at Navan on Saturday.

Shane Crawley's mare was placed in Listed company on three occasions last season, including a runner-up finish behind the brilliant but ill-fated Fayonagh at Fairyhouse in February.

She disappointed on her final outing of the campaign at Aintree, but showed her true colours when making a successful return to action at Wexford in October and Crawley is looking forward to seeing his six-year-old get her jumping career under way in the near future.

He said: "She is in good form and came out of Wexford fine. I've entered her up for a mares maiden hurdle at Navan on Saturday and there also Tramore the following Thursday.

"She is getting from A to B schooling, but it's a different ball game when they go to the track. Hopefully she'll be competitive, but it's hard to know what they'll do first time over hurdles.

"I wouldn't be worried about fitness, it's just the obstacles in front of her and then what she'll come up against."

Sassy Diva is part of a small team of eight horses Crawley has in training.

He added: "I have another Kalanisi filly (Reine Fee) who was third first time out at Galway. I think there is another bumper coming up for her at Fairyhouse in two weeks' time.

"I had Sassy Diva's brother at the sales last month, but I didn't sell him. He was up the last day and there was just no one there.

"Foals were making great money the two previous days, but I thought the buzz was gone out of the place the last day.

"He is back at home now, I'll probably keep him as a three-year-old and I might even put him in training."
