Don’t Talk recorded his second win this week when successfully carrying a 7lb penalty in the opening SBK Handicap Chase at Fairyhouse this afternoon.

The Karl Thornton-trained gelding, who won twice over hurdles here last season, was following up a handicap chase victory at Down Royal on Tuesday.

The easy-to-back 4/1 chance led approaching the last and was driven out and kept on well on the run-in under Donagh Meyler to beat Champagne Mahler by a length and a half. Soloman Lane had to be switched to gain a clear run before the last and kept on to finish a further length and three-quarters back in third.

Thornton said, "That was great, it’s been a good week’s work with him.

“I had him in this, I wasn’t really considering coming but thought I’d throw him in just in case he was placed at Down Royal the other day.

“He showed a bit of boot there today. He’s better on softer ground. Two or two-and-a-half miles doesn’t seem to bother him.”
