Jamie Codd recorded a double at Ballinaboola yesterday, taking the opening races aboard two potentially smart sorts.

Newcomer Delusionofgrandeur got the ball rolling for the Wexford man as he took the opening Artic Tack Stud Maiden Race for 5yo Geldings.

Ger Hourigan trains this son of Mahler and he chased the leaders throughout, coming with his challenge in the straight before keeping on best from the last to record a five length success over favourite Thady Quill.

Hourigan said afterwards: "He is a smashing horse, a powerful, big, real old-fashioned staying chasing horse. He has a real good cruising speed and he stays and jumps. He could be anything.

"We bought him at the Land Rover Sales and he could find his way to Brightwells on Friday now."

Codd completed his brace aboard Yes I Did in the Tattersalls Maiden Race for 5 & 6yo Mares.

This Pierce Power trained bay was also making her debut and despite a mistake at the last she railed gamely under pressure to see off the challenge of fellow newcomer Conquer Gold.

Just a neck separated the duo at the line while there was fifteen lengths back to Escapefromthedark in third.

Power said in the aftermath: "She is a proper good mare, she has always shown us plenty. She hated that ground so it probably just goes to show what a nice mare she is.

"Puppy (jockey Robert Power) rode her a bit of work in the Curragh last week and he said she would win so we were confident.

"We think she will win a bumper so if she doesn't go to the sales she'll go for a bumper.

"It has taken me off the cold list, I was on it too long so thank God I'm off it!

"That's my third winner overall, we have seven in at the moment and we have two beautiful four-year-old's now who are due to run in the spring.

"I also have a big Milan horse who finished second last time out and he should take a bit of beating next weekend."
