Paul Gilligan recorded a double at Bangor this evening with his two runners at the Welsh venue.

Churchfield Champ won the 2m 1f novice hurdle under champion jockey Tony McCoy.

This son of Norwich was sent off at 3/1 and given a patient ride by McCoy he improved three out to led at the last and was ridden out to score by half a length from Battlecat in second.

Over an hour later the double was complete as Wellforth (7/4jfav) took the three mile handicap chase.

The son of New Frontier was last seen winning the Galway Blazers and he followed up with ease today.

The 8yo gelding made all the running and won by twenty nine lengths but his task was made easier at the second last when his market rival Lamboro Lad crashed out.

That fellow was two lengths down at the time and was being scrubbed along.

Wellforth was recording his fourth win this year including the Grade 3 Imperial Call Chase at Cork in April.
