Dreaper makes history at Plumpton

A piece of history was made in the Sir Jim Novices' Handicap Chase on Monday with what the East Sussex executive believed was the first ever Irish-trained winner at Plumpton.

Jim Dreaper's Shernaz (11-8 favourite) had not needed to be at his best to follow up last month's Tramore success as his three rivals handed Richie McGrath the race through exasperating jumping errors.

Draper's son, Tom, said: "There aren't many low-grade races in Ireland at this time of year so we had this in mind ever since his last win.

"He could stay over and carry a penalty at Towcester on Sunday."
