Willie Mullins' Dschingis Desire wore down Mode Avion to get favourite backers off to a winning start in the John Buckley Engineering Ltd Hurdle at Limerick.

Mode Avion set a sedate pace for the most part, but got away from the second-last flight well as the closing Dschingis Desire made a slight mistake there.

The leader was still boxing on along the run-in, however, Brian Hayes got after Dschingis Desire who got to grips with him in the closing stages.

The 6/4 favourite passed the post with half a length in hand of the 3/1 runner-up.

Hayes said: "It was a nice performance on the ground - she travelled well and settled well, which was important. That's her third run for Willie and she has improved on each run, she is tough and will keep going forward.

"I landed in this morning (from Cheltenham) and fly back out again tonight at 7.30pm, so we'll see how we get on tomorrow (for two rides)."

The winner built upon a runner-up berth in a Naas maiden hurdle last month.
