Duke Otto (9/1 from 9/2 early) came from last to first to land the Two-Mile Borris Handicap Hurdle, following-up on a win at Tramore last month.
Still in rear under Gary Noonan jumping three out, the Pat Flynn-trained five-year-old made some progress approaching the straight and continued his forward momentum between the final two flights.
Ridden on the outer away from the last, he really powered home inside the final 100 yards, getting up in the dying strides to prevail by a neck for the Duke Of Saxony Syndicate.
The well-supported Herculaneum (9/2 from 7s early) travelled best to lead approaching the last, but ultimately had to settle for second under Oran McGill for Noel Kelly.
The second choice of punters at 4/1, Destivelle was another length-and-a-quarter back in third, while Brownstone who was returned the 5/2 favourite, could only manage fourth.
"The horse he beat the last day (Star Official) came out and won since," Noonan commented.
"I was quietly confident today, although the last day at Tramore was a small bit more straightforward!
"He was flat-out on his head everywhere today and nothing really went to plan. I couldn't go any quicker than I was going but when we got to the top of the hill, he seemed to jump back on the bridle. He used his flat speed to get home and just got there in time."
"He'll have to step up in grade now but hopefully he can."
STEWARDS REPORT
The Raceday Stewards reviewed an incident in the closing stages involving Duke Otto, ridden by G.B. Noonan, placed first, Forever Frankie ridden by S.F. O'Keeffe, unplaced, and Outdoor Mozzy ridden by Miss P. Elvin, placed sixth, where it appeared there was contact between the three. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the matter, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted.
