Free Eagle, clear favourite for next year’s Epsom Derby, is expected to make a return visit to Leopardstown on Red Mills Irish Champion Stakes Day.

The High Chaparral made a winning debut at the Dublin track last month and is set to turn out again in the Group 3 ICON Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Trial Stakes on Saturday September 7th

Trainer Dermot Weld stated: “It is quite possible that he might run in the Group 3 over a mile. It is a very nice stakes race and it is more than likely that he will run there.”

Commenting on his victory Weld said: “He didn’t surprise me, he has always shown talent, but he did it more impressively than I expected. There is a lot to come from him, but I must stress that he has only won a maiden so far.”

If Free Eagle is successful at Leopardstown, he will qualify for automatic entry into the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf as all entry fees are paid as part of ‘the win and you’re in’ Breeders’ Cup Challenge rules.
