Easier surface doesn't bother Bold Thady Quill Shane Foley got a great tune out of Bold Thady Quill to mow down Jamesie and win the competitive 14-runner seven furlong handicap at Naas by half a length. The 5/1 favourite had been beaten last time out by Whipless at Leopardstown in a handicap over a mile, but turned the tables today as Whipless came home ninth. The gambled-on Joe Eile – 12/1 to 6/1 at the track – took third place, two lengths in arrears of the runner-up, to reward each-way punters. Ken Condon trained the winner for his wife Pauline and he said: “He ran well in this last year when he was fifth. The handicapper allowed him a little bit and didn’t adjust him for a good run at Leopardstown. “Thankfully he got it done today. He appreciated a little bit of ease in the ground. We always thought he was better on firm, but maybe he was more comfortable on that [good to yielding, yielding in places]. “He has been running consistently and that type of horse only gets one chance a year. That’s the first winner for Pauline in her own colours. “I’ll go back to Cork in two weeks for a race he won last year. It depends on what the handicapper does. Ross (Coakley) might ride him to offset the weight.” Bold Thady Quill’s previous three wins had come on good and good to firm ground. Michael Graham
