Moulin Labbe readily justified 8/13 favouritism in winning Navan’s opening maiden hurdle today, scoring for Gigginstown House Stud, trainer Willie Mullins and jockey Paul Townend.

The French-bred son of Silverware raced behind the leaders and having led after the second-last, quickened well to beat runner-up Crooked Path by 13 lengths.

Townend said "it wasn't the strongest of races and he improved from his first run for us in Naas. He did plenty wrong but he's a nice horse. He settled okay, but would want to settle a little bit better, although in a better race he will be fine.

"He was having a little look in front as well, so I was trying to keep the revs up on him. He's a nice horse for the future and he is still a bit raw. He will make a fine chaser.”
