Edward Hamilton makes winning debut in Dundalk nightcap Despite proving relatively easy to back prior to the off, Edward Hamilton made a winning racecourse debut when keeping on in determined fashion to take the concluding Celebrate Your Special Occasion At Dundalk Stadium Maiden. Available at 11/4 in the morning, the Aidan O'Brien trained colt was backed into as short as 8/11f on track, before drifting back out to 11/10f late on. Making much of the early running under Wayne Lordan, the son of Frankel was headed by Hexagonal entering the home straight. Rallying to regain the lead over two furlongs out, Edward Hamilton was then strongly pressed by Ben Lawers a furlong from home. However, the newcomer showed plenty of courage in fending off that challenge to run out a one-and-a-half length winner. Stable Representative Chris Armstrong said:- “He’s a horse that just took a little bit of time. “Wayne gave him a lovely ride. He jumped and was professional enough but he’s going to improve a ton. “He’ll be able to go up to a mile-and-a-half and will handle an ease in the ground. “Mentally and physically he’ll improve a lot. Maybe something like the Trigo Stakes in Leopardstown next month might suit him, give him a little bit of time between runs. “He’s a horse that will have the makings of a nice horse. I think he’s in the horses-in-training sale next month and we’ll try and get another run or two into him before. He’s a horse with a touch of class.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson
