Elleval made no impression on his trip to Britain for the Skybet Supporting The Yorkshire Racing Summer Festival Pomfret Stakes at Pontefract.

David Marnane's charge, who vied for favouritism before going off at 7-2 for the mile Listed contest after his promising return to action at the Curragh last month, travelled towards the rear in the hands of Jamie Spencer.

Tenor took the seven-runner field along at a fair gallop, tracked by the ex-Irish Custom Cut, and these two fought out the finish, with Elleval among those who could make no impact racing from off the pace.

Custom Cut (9-2), who is now in training with David O'Meara and landed a decent pot on soft ground at Windsor towards the end of June, carried on the good work with a performance of some authority.

Although Tenor did not give up without a fight, Custom Cut breezed into the lead at the top of the straight in the hands of David Nolan and stretched his advantage to a length and a half at the line.

Nolan told Racing UK: "My horse is straightforward. He gets every yard of the mile and he has a sustained gallop.

"It worked out perfect. He had that penalty (for winning at Windsor), but he's a tough horse and Pontefract suited him well. This horse is fit and well. It's good to get on him again and win.

"They were sort of worried about the ground - his best form is on soft ground - but you can get away with it at Pontefract sometimes."

Custom Cut started his career with Dermot Weld and continued it with George Kent, for whom he landed the Group Three Gladness Stakes at the Curragh early last year.
