Smooth-travelling Open Secret drew right away from his rivals in the BAR 1 Betting Merry Christmas Maiden Hurdle at Naas to give Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy a double on the card.

The 5/1 shot was on good terms with himself as he closed on Lincoln Du Seuil at the penultimate hurdle.

He soon claimed that rival and asserted, while still on the bridle, before the last. Once that was cleared, he put his rivals to the sword by seven lengths. Raise You Up kept at it in second at 50/1 and was more than three lengths in front of Belladona Princess at 125/1.

Elliott said: “It was a good performance. He’d a good run the last day in Wexford (runner-up) and probably should have nearly won, but he stumbled at the back of the last.

“He stays well and Jack said he loved that ground.”

Elliott and Kennedy also took the opener with Prends Garde A Toi (5/1).
