Old Town Garde brought up a double for Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy with victory at Fairyhouse.

The 4/6 favourite contested the second division of the two and a half mile maiden hurdle and was always holding runner-up and stablemate The Greek (9/1) who closed to within three quarters of a length at the line.

The winner made sustained progress to hit the front just before two out and was chased by The Greek.

He got away from the last quickly and was driven home by Kennedy as the lead was whittled away by The Greek.

Jack Kennedy said: “It was fairly straightforward. I was just a little bit let down by his jumping in the second half of the race.

“I was delighted with him winning but there is a bit of improvement in him.”
