Winners for Gordon Elliott helped Richard Johnson reach the 200-winner mark for the season for only the second time in his career at Perth on Friday.

Johnson enjoyed a career-best tally of 235 winners when crowned champion jockey in Britain for the first time at the end of the 2015-16 season.

He has not managed to get to the double century in either of the last two campaigns, but did so on the eve of winning his fourth jockeys’ title after scoring aboard two Elliott-trained runners in Scotland.

Johnson rode his 199th winner aboard Count Simon (3-1) in the Scone Palace Handicap Hurdle, and was at his brilliant best aboard his stablemate Load Up Time, who needed all of his rider’s strength in the saddle to justify 9-4 favouritism in the St Andrews Students Racing Society Handicap Hurdle.
