Euro Charline retired following injury Grade One winner Euro Charline has been retired following a tendon injury. The Marco Botti-trained mare had been set for the Tattersalls 250th Year Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on Friday, in which she was second to Amazing Maria 12 months ago. But a tendon problem has failed to resolve itself and connections have opted to draw stumps with the Team Valor-owned five-year-old, who scored at the top level in the 2014 running of the Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington Park in America. Botti said: "It's a big blow, we weren't happy with her and had it investigated. But an injury like this is too risky for a filly at that level to carry on and race. "She worked on Saturday and worked well, but two days later we realised all wasn't quite right. She cantered this morning which is why we declared her, but after further examination we decided it was just too risky to carry on. "It's frustrating as we had aimed at this race for a long time, but you can never predict these injuries. "It's very sad, but that's the way it is. She owes us nothing and we couldn't take the risk, at least she is retiring in one piece." Just beaten in the Dubai Turf earlier in the year, Euro Charline's British reappearance saw her finish second to Belardo in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury. The daughter of Myboycharlie recorded four wins from her 14 career starts, amassing over £1.5million in prize-money. She is set to head for the Tattersalls December Sale.
