Sam Ewing doubled up at Ballinrobe this evening when Joe Cool claimed the second division of the Sheridan Electric Maiden Hurdle, for trainer Noel Meade.

The Lightning Spear gelding was making his debut over jumps, having been runner-up in two Flat maidens this year.

He hit the front after the third last flight and had 7/4 favourite Marco Du Seuil for company over the next.

A better jump at the last gave the 10/3 shot the advantage and he held it to the line, recording a length-and-three-quarter success.

Ewing stepped in to replace the injured Donagh Meyler on the winner and he said:-

"It's unfortunate for Donagh and hopefully he'll be okay.

"This horse had a couple of good runs on the Flat and he jumped well on the whole. We went steady and I got a run through going to three out. I'm glad I took it, because he's a big galloping horse and stayed the two miles well.

"He looks more like a jumps horse and has plenty of scope. He liked the ground but he'll go on a bit easier as well.

"His jumping should sharpen up for this and hopefully they'll have a good summer with him."
