FUNCTION REALISES REVELEY`S DREAM

Function Dream improved Mary Reveley`s relatively poor record in the south of Britain with a determined victory in the feature Victor Chandler Chase at Ascot today.

The Saltburn trainer had suffered several disappointments in the past on raids from her Saltburn base - most recently with October Mist at Cheltenham last month - but Function Dream bucked the trend under a positive ride from conditional jockey Tony Ross.

Get Real settled down in the lead for the two-mile test after Corniche`s early departure and set a good gallop with Function Dream racing in touch along with Cenkos and Tiutchev.

As Get Real cried enough four out Function Dream and Cenkos took over and began to draw clear of their toiling rivals.

Function Dream began to get the better of the battle between the final two fences and a good jump at the last clinched the £36,000 first prize for the 2-1 favourite, who had two and a half lengths to spare over Cenkos (14-1) at the line.

Exit Swinger (13-2) was five lengths back in third.

Ross, who was enjoying his biggest success, said: 'She`s brilliant, unbelievably tough and you can`t get to the bottom of her.

'I thought early on we were struggling for a while but the moment we got down the far side and got upsides I knew they couldn`t beat her.

'She jumped the last well and I knew we were going to hold on.'

Function Dream is now a 10-1 chance from 12-1 with William Hill for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival and Ross added: 'After winning that we`ll have to have a go.'
