Sayfa Fad made a winning start for trainer Paul Flynn when taking the first division of the Gibneys Malahide Handicap at Bellewstown.

In form pilot Dylan Browne McMonagle had a wall of horses in front of him two furlongs from home but got a clear run going to the furlong pole.

The 10/1 shot hit the front inside the final furlong and stayed on well in the closing stages to post a length-and-a-half win over 4/1 favourite Nibras Rainbow

Sayfa Fad was making her 14th career outing and had been placed once previously, when runner-up at Leopardstown back in April.

Flynn said: "I grew up with David Bean (joint owner), he taught me how to ride a horse so it is great to train a horse for him.

"John Geoghegan, in fairness, has done all the work with her. He's just not taking as many now. I was just a bit lucky today.

"She came home really strong and did it well. She'll stay a mile and a-quarter. I don't know about the pedigree, but I thought she wanted further at home.

"I wanted to run her in Naas, so I'm glad I didn't! She was a reserve and didn't get in!"
