You Make Me Smile ran out a stylish winner of the Botanica International Mares Handicap Hurdle at Clonmel to open her account.

Harry Sexton gave the Pat Fahy-trained mare a confident ride, producing her on the bridle to dispute before the second last.

The daughter of Elusive Pimpernel was sent on before the last and galloped on strongly on the run to the line to post a two-and-three-quarter length win over Queenofthelodge

You Make Me Smile was scoring at the 21st attempt. The 10/1 winner had been fifth at Naas on her last outing.

Fahy said:- “She nearly got brought down the last day in Naas before staying on well. Sometimes with fillies you only get one chance with them, but she held her form which is great.

“She’s well handicapped on the Flat and I always thought that is where she would thrive.”
