Fallon has faith in Recital

Kieren Fallon believes that Recital has all the requisite attributes for the Investec Derby at Epsom next month.

Not everyone was impressed with the performance of Recital in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown last Sunday as the Montjeu colt displayed an awkward head carriage and hung towards the rail.

The bookmakers response was varied with many firms either leaving Aidan O'Brien's colt unchanged or just trimming his price by a point for the Epsom Classic.

However, the man on board believes that Recital will be a big player on the Surrey downs.

Fallon told his column in the Weekender: "He was so superior to his rivals last weekend that we got to the front far too soon, which was a pity because if I had known him better I would have delayed my move for a little longer, especially as there was a fierce headwind all the way down the straight.

"In my experience one thing horses hate is a strong wind and my fellow was out on his own, taking a right old battering, which is why he appeared to hang to the rail."

The jockey, who isn't certain to partner the colt at Epsom, added: "I know exactly what type of horse you need to win the great race and believe me this fellow has it all."

Recital had finished third behind Jim Bolger's filly Banimpire in the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown on his reappearance and that form received a further boost on Wednesday night when the winner landed her second success since Leopardstown in the Group Three Blue Wind Stakes at Naas.
