Farraig outshines Halo & River

There was a surprise in the Grade 2, Fuller's London Pride Novices' Chase at Newbury with 10-1 chance Cois Farraig (who won a point to point for Colin Bowe in March '09) beating On Borrowed Wings by two and three parts of a length.

The 10/11 favourite Spirit River fell down the back straight having produced a wonderful round of jumping to that point while Celestial Halo made a bad mistake three out before rallying to finish third.

Winning trainer Paul Webber said: "He has always been a very natural jumper and we'll have to make a new plan for him now - I thought we would be off to a beginners' chase after this!"

Paul Nicholls reported of Celestial Halo: "He'll go back hurdling now - he just didn't like it."
