Fehily's 374/1 Uttoxeter treble

Irish jockey Noel Fehily landed a Uttoxeter treble including a front-running ride on the Harry Fry-trained Bold Chief in the Betfred Mobile Novices' Limited Handicap Chase.

The 9-1 shot went to post with freshness assured against rivals that had mainly been busy during the wet winter, and a 168-day break inspired him to a spring-heeled jumping display as he came home six lengths and seven clear of Knock A Hand and Lamb Or Cod.

Fry, who said stable star Rock On Ruby was "fine" after his Arkle disappointment, has a valuable race in mind for Bold Chief back at Uttoxeter in the summer.

He said: "I thought this would be ideally timed for a £60,000 Listed Chase over three and a quarter miles at the end of June, with the possibility of another one in between at Ayr on Scottish National day. He's shown the benefit of his break today. He's always struggled with heat stress, but he's fine."

Given a perfect waiting ride by Fehily, the six-year-old (11-4 favourite) managed to avoid interference when Broughtons Bandit fell two flights out to forge a length and a quarter clear of the latter's stablemate Bold Adventure

An unstoppable Fehily made it a treble worth 374/1 when Liberty One stormed home in the Betfred Goals Galore Handicap Hurdle. The former point-to-pointer made the long journey from Devon to run out a length winner from Swynmor and Songsmith.

His trainer Richard Woollacott envisages a summer holiday for his mud-loving 9-1 winner, on whom Fehily was deputising for the injured Daryl Jacob.

Woollacott said: "He's a lovely, honest horse, and a pleasure to have around. Tom Malone got him for us from Ireland and I think the horse is a bit better than even he thought. But he'd be a lot better on soft ground and it will be chasing for him next season. Daryl has done so much. It's hard luck on him, but Noel's a fantastic jockey."
