Gilgamboa has been roughed off for the season and will start the next campaign novice chasing.

Enda Bolger's six-year-old won the ultra-competitive Boylesports.com Hurdle at Leopardstown on just the fourth run of his life.

Connections then decided to run the JP McManus-owned gelding in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham and he was still in there with a chance when he belted the second-last flight, after which Tony McCoy allowed him to come home in his own time.

"He came back 100 per cent but he's gone home for the summer," said Bolger.

"He won't be going to Punchestown and he'll be going chasing next season.

"It would have been a nice run if he hadn't flattened the second-last as he'd have probably have been sixth or seventh.

"Tony said he was just coming out of his comfort zone, but that's not surprising given he's won over two and a half miles in heavy and that was two miles on good.

"It was only his fifth ever race so we were happy enough with him."
