Fiona Mullins (19), daughter of George and sister to Emmet, successful on First Friday at Tipperary in August 2012, rode her second winner when Goldboy took the concluding Killahora INH Flat Race at Clonmel.

Her uncle Willie's charge, owned by the Cistercian College Roscrea Racing Syndicate, didn't make things easy for his teenage rider, racing keenly.

However, like many sons and daughters of his sire, Gold Well, the 9/4 favourite stays well and inside the last he left Festival Opera behind to the tune of seven lengths at the line.

"It wasn't really the plan (to be so prominent) but I had to deal with what I got. My brother Emmet, and Willie gave me instructions but he kept pulling and pulling and never settled.

"I thought at the top of the straight that he was dead but he kept going.

"I have a big interest in show-jumping and I'm not sure about future plans for bumpers. I hadn't ridden since I got a fall at the Curragh last September where I was concussed.

"I did my Leaving Cert since and I'm now in UCC doing commerce," explained Fiona afterwards. (TW & EM)
