Trainer Aidan Howard’s Fianna (14/1) rewarded connections’ patience with success on her reappearance run today, landing Roscommon’s concluding Class Grass Handicap for owner Simon Mullin and jockey James Ryan.

Purchased by Mullin for €4,000 as a yearling, maiden Fianna’s previous race was at Gowran last April and here, over a mile and a half, the Belardo mare improved to lead a furlong out and scored by 1.5 lengths from Lady Plimsoll .

Howard said “We ran her at the end of April, but I wasn’t 100 per cent happy with her afterwards. She’d just lost her confidence, so I gave her a break and then went at her again.

“I was hoping we’d get a little bit of rain and an ease in the ground, so the rain came just in time and it worked out well.

“I’m delighted to get a winner for the owners, as they are lovely people.”
