Flat Finale Day at Leopardstown Leopardstown hosts its last flat race meeting of the year next Sunday when all the awards for the season will be decided. Joseph O’ Brien will be crowned Champion Jockey while his father Aidan will retain his Champion Trainer title .This is the first time that a father and son have won these titles since 1916 and it is a feat that may never be repeated. The Champion Apprentice award will go to Ronan Whelan, which is a great honour for the 19 year old from the Jim Bolger stable. The Monasterevin native is the latest in a long line of champion jockeys to have come from the Coolcullen yard. The Leopardstown November handicap will be the last flat race of the year at the South Dublin track. This is one of the great handicaps of the season. With a prize fund of €60,000 the race is always a very competitive affair. Jessica Harrington has entered Citizenship who ran well in Leopardstown last Saturday. He knows his way around the track having won the Boylesports.com Hurdle in January. Willie Mullins looks to have a strong hand with the Galway winner Call Me Bubbles and Deutschland amongst the entries. Last year’s Istabraq Festival Hurdle winner Unaccompanied is going for the Book Tickets Online Handicap. She has won twice at Grade 1 level at Leopardstown and will be carrying the colours of Moyglare Stud in this its fiftieth year. The Eyrefield Stakes is always a guide to the following year’s classics. This year’s renewal has nine horses that have already won this season. It looks like being a great contest with all the top trainers keen to win this prestigious listed race. First race on the seven race card will be at 12.55.
