Flavin's Bank Holiday weekend getting better and better A week on from a son of Kingman creating all the headlines with Field Of Gold's Guineas success, another of the star miler's sons today made his own news, Duty Bound doing the needful for in-form connections in the Insurance Wise Handicap Hurdle at Listowel. Clarens took the feature at Tramore last evening for John Flavin at his local track. Today the seaside trainer headed for Listowel to supervise his runners at the Kerry track, and he'll have been delighted with the excellent attitude displayed by 10/1 chance Duty Bound, in the hands of Donagh Meyler, as he got up to beat Eoin McCarthy's Fast Felix by half a length. "He missed the second-last but Donagh (Meyler) thought that he was going to get back up," said Flavin. "We paid a good few quid (55,000gns) for him out of Andrew Balding's and he took time to come right. He is tough and hardy now, stuck his head out and it was a nice pot to win. "He was the first Kingman to win over fences, at Wexford last year. "I've no real plan next, as today had been the plan." K.C. Sexton, rider of Long Gone, trained by Declan Queally, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount never travelled and pulled up after two hurdles. The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Long Gone, trained by Declan Queally, at the request of the Raceday Stewards and reported the animal to be lame on its left hind post race. The Raceday Stewards reviewed the riders first approach to the Starter in this race. Having viewed all the footage, they were satisfied that numerous horses were being difficult and therefore took no further action. (TW & EM)
