Tramore trainer John Flavin's afternoon got better at Galway when 25/1 chance Always Scoring took the Glenlo Abbey Hotel & Estate Maiden Hurdle over two miles, five furlongs.

A point-to-point winner for Cian Hughes, the Mahler gelding had been well beaten on hurdling debut at Fairyhouse. Here, after eight months off, he came from off the pace to head Doctor Elvis in the closing stages with a length and three-quarters the margin of victory.

Flavin had earlier won the third race when his Lanzhou was the beneficiary first-past-the-post Prince Palace was disqualified after his jockey subsequently weighed in 1.2lbs light.

Always Scoring was completing a treble for Keith Donoghue, who had struck earlier for Gavin Cromwell with Simply Natural and Ole Ole .

Flavin commented "He has plenty of ability, but I wasn't sure about today's heavy ground.

“I'd say it was a very, very bad maiden hurdle, but he jumped like a stag and Keith said to go chasing with him.

"We might go for a rated novice hurdle now.

"I came up on my own and didn't think I'd have two winners coming here today, but that's the way it happens sometimes."
