Galileo's Choice will visit Flemington on Wednesday ahead of his bid for the Emirates Melbourne Cup next Tuesday.

Dermot Weld's dual-purpose performer finished seventh in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle in March but won a Listed race and a Group Three on his return to the level this summer.

That persuaded Weld to send him over to Australia and he will put the finishing touches to his preparations at Werribee on Tuesday morning before familiarising himself with his big-race surroundings.

Weld is the only international trainer to have won the race twice with Vintage Crop (1993) and Media Puzzle (2002).

Galileo's Choice had an impromptu gallop on Saturday morning after dumping his rider at Werribee and running loose for a couple of circuits before being caught.

"There was no harm with him just running around but it might have been different if he'd tried to jump a fence," said Weld's son Mark.

"In fact, back home a loose horse means a winner."

Galileo's Choice is guaranteed a run in the Cup but the same cannot be said for five other overseas contenders after the second acceptance stage.

With a maximum field of 24, Lost In The Moment (26), Brigantin (27), Shahwardi (29), Gatewood (33) and Ibicenco (37) are all in danger of missing the race.

John Gosden's Gatewood is likely to run in the Lexus Stakes at Flemington on Saturday to try to sneak in at the 11th hour.
