Seskin Flyer defied top weight when running out a game winner of the two-mile handicap hurdle at Tramore.

2/1 favourite Persian Wind won the early battle for the lead in the contest but faded on the run to the second last.

Seskin Flyer was held up after a mistake at the first but took closer order going to the penultimate flight and hit the front before the last.

Pat Carey 's charge was strongly pressed by 20/1 shot Princess Mahler on the run-in but stuck his neck out for a half length success.

The 11/1 winner had been easy to back having traded 5/1 this morning. It was a welcome success for Thurles handler Carey, his first since Driveheron won at Sligo in September 2010.

"He lost a shoe before the race and we were nearly withdrawing him. I got a farrier at the track and it's turned out to be a lucky shoe!” said Carey.

"He's a real chaser and we said we might sneak a hurdle with him. He nearly fell at the first and then he jumped the height of the shed over the second.

“I told Andrew to just creep away and see what happens. He stays further and I'm delighted with him."
