Foley hoping to strike Gold with Rebel Pat Foley is planning to have a couple of runners at Fairyhouse on Easter Monday including stable veteran Rebel Gold in the Grade 2 Jack McInerney Memorial Fairyhouse Chase. The son of Gold Well enjoyed his finest hour when landing the Dan & Joan Moore Memorial Handicap Chase at Fairyhouse back in 2023 and recorded a sixth career win last time in a 2m3f veterans handicap chase at Wexford. “Rebel Gold will run as there are not many options for him and we are not going to go for a handicap that he’d be topweight,” said the Bagenalstown trainer, “There is normally a small field in the race. He ran in it last year, but we’ll probably ride him to get it rather than push the pace with him. “He deserved the win the last day as he’s a model of consistency and probably deserved to win more than he did. It’s hard enough to place him as he doesn’t get any further than 2m3f and soft ground is the key to him as well. “At the age of 12 he still has plenty of ability.” Foley may also be represented by Verdant Place in the three-mile Envirogreen Building Services Handicap Chase. The seven-year-old has already won twice over the trip at Navan this season and unsettled weather this week has increased confidence in the JP McManus-owned gelding. “We gave him the entry after all the rain as he’s better on softer ground. I haven’t talked to Frank (Berry) yet, but I’d say there is a good chance that he will run. “I’m looking forward to running both of them.”
