Football: Manchester United vs Arsenal Tips

Our betting expert has three Manchester United vs Arsenal tips for Sunday's Premier League tussle at Old Trafford (kick-off, 4.30pm). Scroll down for the analysis behind his selections.

- Arsenal to win and Under 3.5 goals

- Over 5.5 cards

- Bet Builder: Under 3.5 goals, Bruno Fernandes Over 1.5 shots on target & Declan Rice Over 0.5 shots on target

Gunners to keep things tight

Old foes Manchester United and Arsenal are set for a major opening weekend collision as the Premier League returns.

The Red Devils are hoping to leave behind a miserable season last term, but Ruben Amorim could scarcely have asked for a more testing first assignment as Mikel Arteta brings his Gunners to Old Trafford.

Arteta's side are a shade of odds-on to win and that looks about right, but there is more value in taking an Arsenal win featuring under 3.5 goals.

The North Londoners boasted the top-flight’s meanest defence last season with just 34 goals conceded. United, meanwhile, scored just 44 goals in 38 games, with only the three relegated clubs and Everton faring worse in front of goal.

The traditional Premier League 'big six' of Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal and United is perhaps questionable now, but no less, games between these clubs are occasions in themselves.

Arsenal haven't lost in 21 league games against those five rivals and can extend that sequence with a low-scoring win at Old Trafford.

Expect things to be feisty

Love has never been lost between these clubs, with the Alex Ferguson-Arsene Wenger era taking things up a notch.

Arteta's side can be fiery at the best of times. With six red cards, they topped the Premier League standing for that category last season. The Red Devils are no shrinking violets either, averaging more than two cards per game over the duration last season.

When this pair met in the FA Cup last season, it got tetchy, with seven yellows and a red handed out.

It's the first day of term and there could be a few mistimed challenges, allied to long-standing dislike between the clubs, ensuring Simon Hooper could be busy.

Manchester United vs Arsenal Tip 2: Over 5.5 cards

Fernandes remains United's go-to man

Bruno Fernandes remains a United player and the Portuguese playmaker is the focal point of the Red Devils operation.

Fernandes averaged 2.7 shots per game for his side last term, more than any team-mate, and will be on duty from penalties and free-kicks. He has scored three times in pre-season and launches this bet builder for a couple of shots on target.

Declan Rice hit some crucial goals for Arsenal in the second of last season, including a second half strike at Old Trafford in a 1-1 draw in March. He's underrated as a goal threat and can get a shot on the United goal.

Finally, with the Gunners so reliable at the back last season and United far from free-scoring, under 3.5 goals looks a safe play in a Super Sunday offering that could be tactically intriguing without being a blockbuster.
