  • Liverpool Champions For A Reason

The 4-2 scoreline flattered Liverpool as they beat Bournemouth on Friday night to begin their defence of the Premier League title with three points.

After going 2-0 ahead, a quick Antoine Semenyo brace pegged them back before Federico Chiesa scored in the 88th minute and Mohamed Salah rounded off the game with a goal in added time.

Liverpool’s firepower is evident and it is scary to think what they would be capable of if Isak is to get his wish and move to Anfield.

New signing Hugo Ekitike scored the opening goal last week and Liverpool’s frontline should have enough to get the job done at St. James’ Park, as they have done in three of their previous four visits to the north east.

Bournemouth showed that Liverpool’s defence can be exposed but it is obvious why Newcastle may struggle to do that.

Winger Anthony Gordon led the line against Aston Villa admirably but the lack of cutting edge is evident without Isak so the visitors should pick up all three points on Monday.

Ekitikie Can Show Newcastle What They Are Missing

It is not just Isak who was the subject of a transfer tussle between Liverpool and Newcastle; Ekitike was touted as the Swede’s replacement at St. James’ Park before moving to Anfield from Frankfurt for £82.4million this summer.

Eyebrows were raised by that transfer but the 23-year-old has massively impressed for Arne Slot’s side so far.

After scoring on his debut in the Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace, he followed it up with a goal on his Premier League debut against the Cherries.

Both goals showed the instincts of a clinical finisher, and while there are plenty of goalscoring options for Liverpool, Ekitike is the most attractive at 13/8, given his attributes.

    Atmosphere At Boiling Point

It is hard to assess the impact of the Isak transfer saga on the pitch at St. James’ Park but it is fair to say that the tension will be palpable in the stands.

That may transfer to the Newcastle players who want to demonstrate their commitment to the club, in contrast to Isak’s attitude.

Midfield duo Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton are the most likely candidates to show their frustrations at Isak's absence, and that is why we have gone for both to receive a card at 15/4.

Joelinton, who was booked 10 times last season, earned his first yellow of the season at Villa Park last weekend, while Guimaraes committed two fouls in the game so it would be no surprise to see them go into the referee’s book on Monday night.
