Fosters on course for Galway

Tom Mullins is keeping an eye on the weather before deciding which race to run Fosters Cross in at the Galway Festival.

The eight-year-old holds entries in the two big jumps races at the seven-day long jamboree - the www.thetote.com Galway Plate on July 28 and the Arthur Guinness Galway Hurdle the following day.

Mullins is thinking of giving Fosters Cross a prep run on the Flat at Ballinrobe on Monday, but only if the ground is suitable.

The gelding was last in action when brought down in the Grade One Ryanair Novice Chase won by Captain Cee Bee at Punchestown in April.

"I'm not sure whether he will run on Monday. If there's a lot of rain he won't go to Ballinrobe," said the Goresbridge trainer.

"He's in the Plate and Hurdle at Galway and if it went soft there he'd probably go for the Hurdle rather than the Plate. But there's no decision made about that yet.

"He's in very good form. He had a month off after running at the Punchestown Festival. He's been back on the road since and Galway is the plan. Hopefully he'll get there."
