Franklin D suffers fatal injury Betfred Mile winner Franklin D suffered a fatal injury on the Newmarket gallops on Wednesday morning. Michael Bell's horse was an extremely well-backed winner of the one-mile handicap at Glorious Goodwood and helped complete a double for the yard and owners Bill and Tim Gredley, after Big Orange had landed the Goodwood Cup. But after a fall during what has been described as a routine workout, the four-year-old sustained a fracture to his hind leg and had to be euthanised. Bell told the Racing Post: "Unfortunately, Franklin D broke a hind leg pastern and couldn't be saved. It is very sad for all concerned. "He was a yard favourite and very easy to train. Everybody is very disappointed and upset by this and we were looking forward to him being a pathfinder for us with his trip to South Korea. This really is a game of snakes and ladders."
