Friday's Lucky 15 tips at Listowel

Day five of Listowel's week-long Harvest Festival meeting features an eight-race card featuring both Jumps and Flat action. On paper, it looks to be a tricky card with a host of big field handicaps for race fans to get involved in.

The action kicks off at 13:23 before the finale at 17:25 and George Bonds has provided selections and analysis for a Lucky 15 on Friday's card.

Friday's Lucky 15 tips at Listowel

13:58 - Pahlavi

The second race at Listowel this afternoon is one for the female jockeys and like most races on this card on Friday, it is fiercely competitive. One runner who catches the eye is Pahlavi for 'Shark' Hanlon, who arrives here in good form.

His penultimate run saw him secure a good win at Downpatrick, where he wore down the winner on the line. Following that performance, connections tried their luck over at Fontwell, and while his performance was credible, a 10lb rise and a slight step up in trip proved too much for Hanlon's gelding.

However, he arrives back in Ireland with just a 4lb rise for that win at Downpatrick and can go well back down to what seems to be his optimum trip.

15:08 - Bowensonfire

By far the most valuable race of the day is the listed handicap hurdle over two miles. While Gordon Elliot has been unable to win this race in the last 10 years despite having a runner in almost every renewal, he will feel he has a good chance this year with Cashedale Lad and Bowensonfire. The preference goes to the latter and the choice of stable jockey Jack Kennedy.

He met two fellow race rivals last time out in Spy and Come on the Lads, and despite Elliot's charge being disappointing that day, he was badly hampered by a falling horse, rendering any chance he had. In August, he was sent off as a 12/1 shot for the Galway Hurdle and Friday could be the day he is able to replicate his previous form.

16:18 - A Nod to Getaway

Paul O'Flynn's A Nod to Getaway was able to justify favouritism in his most recent outing at Killarney, winning by an emphatic nine lengths in the process. He was strong in the market that day and was successful at the seventh time of asking over fences.

It was interesting to note that he had jumped a lot more fluently last time out than he had in the past, which clearly contributed to his success. The handicapper hasn't let him off kindly with a 9lb rise, however, he's rated 102 as a hurdler, suggesting that he may still be ahead of his mark.

17:25 - Lark in the Mornin

The 2024 Fred Winter winner, Lark in the Mornin, remains lightly raced since his win at the Cheltenham Festival, suggesting he may have lost his way a bit over obstacles. However, he boasts an impressive record over the flat, winning twice and finishing third once from four starts, with one of those wins coming at Listowel.

His most recent run at Bellewstown in July was impressive enough although it is hard to see if he beat much that day. Nevertheless, it was a good performance which earned him his first win since the Festival in 2024.

He's still only five years old and remains fairly unexposed in both codes. There's no doubt that he has shown glimpses of potential ability in the past and he can make his presence felt with a good performance in the finale at Listowel this afternoon.
