Fury scores at Wetherby

Fists Of Fury made his journey to England worthwhile with a battling performance in the Bramham Hall For Conferences & Events Beginners' Chase at Wetherby.

Sent off the even-money favourite, Fists Of Fury recorded a two-and-three-quarter-length victory over Battle Group under Tony McCoy .

Trainer Charles Byrnes explained the trip across the Irish Sea was down to advice from Gigginstown boss Michael O'Leary.

"Gigginstown have so many top chasers in Ireland, he wouldn't let me run this fella (there)," said Byrnes.

"But I still think this is a fair horse."

Fists Of Fury, a full-brother to Willie Mullins' former RSA Chase winner Cooldine, had previously managed just one hurdle victory at Thurles.

But he had come up against the Gigginstown-owned Last Instalment on only his second chase start at Galway last month, and Byrnes may bring the seven-year-old back for further English raids.

He said: "He'll stay further than this. The ground at home is heavy, and will be for some time, and he doesn't really like it."
